Conservation & Restoration

Art conservation and art restoration is the skilled profession of preserving the historic integrity of cultural property, including architecture, works of fine art, archaeology and museum collections. Art conservators undergo intensive academic and applied training in both science and fine art to diagnose suitable treatments to prolong the life of your cultural property. Whereby, art restoration is an aspect within conservation, intended to return cultural property to a known or assumed state, often through the addition of non-original material.

Art-Kitect works closely with our clients to realize the special history of their cultural property. All of our conservation treatments abide by a standard that include: · Minimal intervention · Appropriate materials and reversible methods · Full documentation of all work undertaken.

Academy & Camps

Art is powerful. When a young person connects with the arts they find not just the capacity for personal expression, but also confidence in a discipline they can carry with them for life. That’s real power. Like the power-to-light-up-a-room powerful.

Previous art experience or lessons are not a requirement to join our studio. We welcome every level of artist, including absolute beginners. Our classes are structured with step-by-step instruction making the drawing process simple and fun. Each year your child is enrolled we step up the skill level required for projects, so your child is continually engaged and challenged.

For all art class inquiries, please contact us via phone 647-348-8182 or e-mail artschool@art-kitect.com, and a specialized staff member will be happy to assist to you.

Our Process

We make use of state-of-the-art techniques, materials and equipment to preserve the historic integrity and prolong the life of your artifacts, artwork and architecture to the extent safely possible.

1.
In-Person Consultation

Consultations at our Davisville location are free of charge. A proposal will be generated once the artwork or artifact has been seen (please see Artifact Examination and Proposals). History, including its acquisition history, helps our staff members diagnose damaged areas more accurately and makes treatment more efficient.

2.
Treatment Proposal

Our conservation proposals are designed to cater to each individual piece by providing a treatment plan that is safe and aesthetically appropriate to the artist’s original style and materials used. Treatment cost never parallels the value of the artwork or artifact. A proposal and client waiver will be sent to you for your approval. A 50% deposit is required for treatment to begin.

3.
Treatment of the Artifact

In accordance to the CAPC-CAC Code of Ethics and Guidance for Practice all artwork and artifacts that enter a conservation laboratory & studio will be professionally photographed and documented before preforming treatment. Restoration and/or conservation treatment will be exercised to the extent safely possible for the artwork & artifact. All documentation and treatment information will be generated into three comprehensive reports and kept on record as a part of the history of the artwork or artifact.

4.
Final Product Delivery

An arrangement will be made to safely store or return the artwork or artifact. Delivery and wall hanging can also be arranged with conservation professional.
